What is IOSH Managing Occupational Health and Wellbeing?

The IOSH Managing Occupational Health and Wellbeing course is designed to provide delegates with the tools and techniques to improve health and wellbeing across their organisation. They won’t suddenly become health and wellbeing experts – but it will help them to become line managers who truly care about the health and wellbeing of an organisation’s most important asset – its people.

Course Duration

The guided learning hours are six hours 15 minutes, which is 5 hours 45 minutes of learning, and 30 minutes for the end of day assessment.

  2. Summarise occupational safety and health and employment requirements and describe what to consider in a health needs assessment
  3. Describe how the vision and direction of an organisation influence health and wellbeing in the workplace​
  4. Explain ways to monitor health risks in a risk management process and state who can provide help with managing occupational health and wellbeing issues
  5. Relate health hazards to different categories and explain their causes and impact
  6. Carry out a health risk assessment identifying the hazards, risks and controls and recognise any specific health risks that need to be prioritised
  7. List types of common non-work-related physical and mental health conditions and describe how they impact fitness for work​
  8. Describe the requirements and types of health assessments for specific worker groups
  9. Describe the components of a drug and alcohol policy and testing process and explain how to manage results
  10. Explain ways to conduct absence management and recognise the benefit of getting people back to work
  11. Explain the aims and business benefits of a workplace wellbeing programme and how to promote and monitor it​
  12. Describe health choices and how they can enable a healthy lifestyle
  13. Recognise mental health issues and explain how to approach the individual to find a way forward
  14. Describe how the culture, attitudes and behaviours of leaders influence overall wellbeing

Course Assessments

There is a risk assessment project to complete which must be submitted within 2 weeks of the course completing.

Assessment 1

Completed at the end of the course, and comprises of 20 Questions over 30 minutes. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer - the maximum mark for the complete assessment is 41; the minimum pass mark is 25.

Assessment 2

The health risk assessment project is broken down into a number of stages, which should flow from start to finish, telling a complete story of the three tasks being performed, associated health hazards, risks and their required controls (Part A) along with an action plan of how the health risks will be monitored (Part B).

Certification

The course is certificated by IOSH. This qualification does not expire.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.

For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.
