Our Understanding Neurodiversity in Construction course is a four-hour virtual classroom session developed specifically for those working in the construction sector.

As the industry continues to face skills shortages, safety demands and growing expectations around inclusion, understanding neurodiversity has become essential. This course gives you the knowledge and confidence to create more supportive and effective working environments.

We have designed the session with real-world application in mind, so it goes well beyond theory. By the end of the course you will have identified at least one meaningful action or personal commitment to put in place in your own workplace.

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for anyone in construction looking to strengthen team performance, improve wellbeing and contribute to a safer, more inclusive working environment. If you supervise or manage a site team, it complements the safety-leadership content covered in site management training courses. There are no formal entry requirements.

What You Will Learn

  • Module 1: Understanding Neurodiversity
  • Module 2: Barriers and Challenges in Construction
  • Module 3: Creating an Inclusive Construction Culture
  • Module 4: Reflection and Action Planning

By the end of the course you will be able to define neurodiversity and describe its relevance to construction work, recognise the strengths and challenges of neurodivergent workers, identify barriers in the construction environment and propose adjustments, demonstrate inclusive communication and supervision practices, and contribute to a more inclusive workplace culture. We also cover what organisations need to consider around reasonable adjustments, and what to do if a colleague discloses that they are neurodivergent.

Assessment

We assess your learning through participation in discussions and activities, ongoing questions and answers, completion of the Understanding Neurodiversity in Construction question set in our Learning Zone, and identifying at least one meaningful action or personal commitment to implement in your workplace.

On completion you will be issued with a PCR certificate. Certification for this course has no expiry. The course is CITB Endorsed, and funding may be available through the CITB Employer Network for CITB Levy registered companies.
