Online (Instructor-led) Courses

Envico lists 400+ live instructor-led online courses from accredited UK providers. A real tutor, a fixed date and a scheduled cohort — delivered over a video platform such as Zoom or Teams rather than in a room. The qualification and the certificate are the same as the classroom equivalent; what disappears is the travel, the overnight stay and the second day lost to the journey.

This is not self-paced e‑learning. You attend at set times alongside other delegates, you can ask questions and be asked them, and the tutor adapts to the group. For anything discussion-led — management qualifications, risk assessment, CDM duties — that difference matters.

Live online, e-learning or classroom?

Three different things, often confused, and choosing the wrong one costs either money or a certificate that is not accepted.

Live online

A tutor teaching a cohort at set times. Questions answered as they arise, group discussion, and the same certification as the classroom route. Suits qualifications where the teaching matters and the practical element does not.

E-learning

Self-paced modules with no tutor and no fixed date. Cheaper, instant, and ideal for awareness topics and inductions — but nobody is there to answer a question, and the range of qualifications is narrower.

Classroom

In a room with an instructor. Required for anything with practical assessment — first aid, plant and access, confined spaces, the CITB schemes. The widest range of qualifications, and the highest travel cost.

What you need on the day

Live online is genuinely convenient, but it is not a course you can half-attend while answering email. Providers increasingly monitor participation, and awarding bodies require it.

A stable connection and a quiet space

A laptop or desktop is far more comfortable than a phone, particularly across a full day. A headset helps. Site cabins and shared offices are workable but rarely ideal on a multi-day qualification.

A camera, usually on

Most providers require cameras enabled for the whole session. It is how attendance and identity are evidenced for the awarding body, and on some schemes it is a condition of certification rather than a preference.

The full timetable, released

A five-day qualification is five full days whether it runs in a room or on screen. Delegates expected to cover their normal duties alongside it tend not to pass. Release them as you would for a classroom course.

Materials ahead of time

Many providers post workbooks or send them digitally before the course. Where physical materials are involved, allow delivery time — a late booking may mean materials arriving after the first session.

Delegates outside the UK

Live online removes the geography from UK-accredited training. Envico sells into more than 200 countries with pricing in the buyer's own currency, and a number of these cohorts are attended from Ireland, the Gulf states and further afield by people working towards UK-recognised qualifications.

Two practical points: cohorts run to UK time, so check the schedule against your own before booking, and where an examination is invigilated the arrangements may differ outside the UK. Both are stated on the course page or confirmed with the provider before we quote.

Training a team online

This is the format that solves the dispersed-workforce problem. People in six locations attend the same course on the same day without anyone travelling, and the certificates are identical to the classroom route.

No travel to fund

The saving on a group is rarely in the course fee. It is in a dozen people not driving, not staying overnight and not losing a day either side of the training.

A closed cohort

Where numbers justify it, a session can run for your organisation alone on a date you choose, with examples drawn from your own operations rather than a general audience.

One quotation, one invoice

Written, referenced and itemised, with purchase orders accepted and carried through. Settled in advance of the course rather than by card at booking.

Mixed with other formats

Live online questions

Is the qualification the same as attending in a classroom?

Yes, where the awarding body approves the course for remote delivery. The syllabus, the assessment and the certificate are identical, and nothing on the certificate records how it was delivered. Awarding bodies approve specific courses for this format rather than approving remote delivery generally, which is why some qualifications appear here and others do not.

Which platform is used, and do I need to install anything?

Usually Zoom or Microsoft Teams, stated by the provider in the joining instructions. Both run in a browser, though the desktop application is generally more reliable across a full day. If your organisation blocks either platform, check with IT before booking — it is a more common obstacle than people expect.

Do I have to keep my camera on?

Usually, yes. Most providers require cameras enabled throughout, because attendance and identity have to be evidenced for the awarding body. On some schemes a delegate who will not appear on camera cannot be certificated. If that is a genuine problem, raise it before booking rather than on the morning.

Can I catch up if I miss a session?

Rarely. These are live cohorts rather than recordings, and awarding bodies generally require full attendance for certification. A missed day on a multi-day qualification often means transferring to a later cohort, subject to the provider's terms. It is the main practical difference from e-learning and worth flagging to delegates in advance.

How are exams handled?

It depends on the qualification. Some are assessed online during or after the course, some require a separately booked invigilated examination, and a few require attendance at a centre. The course page states the arrangement, and where it is not clear we confirm it with the provider before quoting rather than after you have booked.

Which subjects cannot be done this way?

Anything requiring practical demonstration or physical assessment. Workplace first aid, IPAF and PASMA operator training, confined spaces entry, abrasive wheels mounting, forklift and plant operation all need a classroom or practical element. Where a subject has a theory component that can be delivered remotely, the course page says so and states what still has to be attended.

Do you deliver these courses yourselves?

No. Envico is an independent training intermediary and has arranged workplace training since 2003. Every live online course is delivered and certificated by the accredited provider named on the listing, using their tutors and their platform. That independence is what allows Envico to list courses from hundreds of providers and recommend on the basis of what suits the requirement.
