Course Syllabus
The NEBOSH General Certificate course syllabus is made up of the following units:
Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety
- Element 1: Why we should manage workplace health and safety
- Element 2: How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
- Element 3: Managing risk – understanding people and processes
- Element 4: Health and safety monitoring and measuring
Unit NG2: Risk Assessment
- Element 5: Physical and psychological health
- Element 6: Musculoskeletal health
- Element 7: Chemical and biological agents
- Element 8: General workplace issues
- Element 9: Work equipment
- Element 10: Fire
- Element 11: Electricity
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
Important note: Learners will be required to have access to Wi-fi to download the open book exam paper and to be competent users with word processing software such as MS Word to complete it.
Assessment
Assessment is a two-step process:
The NG1 assessment is in the new open book format that is taken at home or other suitable place, this is replaces the previous invigilated paper-based examination.
After the NG1 Open Book Exam, learners will be required to undertake a closing interview with the trainer or head of course provider, the purpose of the closing interview is to give assurance that the paperwork submitted is their own original work.
The NG2 practical risk assessment is also conducted in the workplace/home and is to be submitted within 10 days of the last date of the NG2 element.
Both assessments are marked by examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Examiners are chosen by NEBOSH for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the very best from the industry.
Results and Certification
Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments are awarded the official NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
All results for assessments should be received within 50 working days from the date of the examination or submission of the practical risk assessment. The specific date will be provided on examination entry confirmation forms.
Certificates will be posted direct to learners by us upon receipt from NEBOSH
