Instructor-Led CITB SMSTS Course Online

The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is the recognised health and safety qualification for site managers, agents and persons in control of work on UK construction sites. It is widely required by principal contractors as a condition of appointment.

Delivery Method

This course is delivered live online over Microsoft Teams by a qualified tutor. It is not self-paced e-learning — delegates attend scheduled sessions and participate in real time. You will need a laptop or PC with a working webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection.

Please note: this course runs as day release over five consecutive Fridays rather than as a single block week. Delegates must attend all five days.

• Health and safety law and the manager's legal responsibilities
• Risk assessments and method statements
• CDM 2015 duties on site
• Occupational health, welfare and site set-up
• Working at height, excavations and confined spaces
• Scaffolding, temporary works and demolition awareness
• Electrical safety and site transport
• Accident reporting, investigation and RIDDOR

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is by written examination and a core knowledge test. Successful delegates receive a CITB Site Safety Plus SMSTS certificate valid for five years, renewable by the two-day SMSTS Refresher before expiry. The certificate is identical to the one issued for classroom delivery.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.

For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.

Short online courses also help employers to demonstrate that they have fulfilled their legal duties to ensure their personnel have been adequately trained.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.

You will be provided with a username and password which will enable you to access the e-learning portal. Login to start your course, once you have completed and passed the course, you will be able to download and print your certificate straight away.
