Course Overview
The NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is 10 days long and spread over two weeks. Your tutor will also give you additional study hours, which will equate to around 40 hours of learning.
The practical approach of this course promotes the application of the knowledge acquired to problem-solving within the workplace. The NEBOSH Certificate is equivalent to an NVQ Level 3 / A-level qualification.

Week 2 [Unit 2] – Risk Assessment
- Physical and Psychological health including Musculoskeletal health

- General workplace issues

- Fire and Electricity
Course Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
This course is highly recommended for managers, supervisors, and staff across all types of organisations who need a comprehensive understanding of health and safety. If you hold health and safety responsibilities in your role, this course will equip you to fulfill them effectively and in compliance with current legislation.
Assessment
To pass, you will need to complete an Open Book Examination of unit 1 content. You will also have a practical assessment to complete (unit 2 assessment) which you will submit after the Open Book Examination.
Unit 1 Assessment – Open Book Examination (1 Day)
You have remote access to the Open Book Examination on a set day for a 24-hour window to complete it. We also require you to attend a short interview (approx 15 minutes) within a few days of completion; you will be allocated a time for this upon booking.

Unit 2 Assessment – Practical Submission
This is a practical risk assessment to demonstrate your ability. You will complete a risk assessment and follow up with an action plan for your workplace. This information can be used as an actual risk assessment for your workplace
Within 10 days of completing the unit 1 Open Book Examination, you must hand in your completed practical assessment, the actual deadline will be shared with you in week 2 of the course.
Certification
Successful candidates will receive a NEBOSH National General certificate which is equivalent to an NVQ Level 3 / A-level qualification. This is a globally recognised qualification that can open numerous opportunities in health and safety roles—whether advancing within your current company or seeking new employment.
The General Certificate is applicable across all sectors, allowing you to apply your skills to a variety of industries, offering diverse career options in health and safety.
