What is the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course?

The Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course (TWCTC) is the two-day CITB Site Safety Plus programme for the person appointed to coordinate temporary works on a project. Developed with the Temporary Works Forum, the HSE and Build UK, it explains how temporary works should be managed under BS 5975:2019 and BS 5975-1:2024, and centres on the four Cs – communication, coordination, cooperation and competence. It is a management and procedures course rather than a design course.

Who is the TWCTC Course Suitable For?

People on site with responsibility for managing all forms of temporary works, and those about to take on the temporary works coordinator role. A good standard of English and a valid form of photo ID are required. Attendance supports competence but does not by itself confer it – that is judged by the designated individual within the organisation.

What's Included in the TWCTC Course?

Two days of live instructor-led training over Zoom, course materials written by temporary works specialists, and the CITB mandatory publication for the course (BS 5975:2019, Section 2).

Delivery Method

Live online via Zoom, 08:30 to 17:00 on both days. Delegates need a laptop or PC with webcam, microphone and speakers, a stable connection and a quiet space for the whole course.

Course Duration

2 days

Course Content

  • The need for, and duties of, the temporary works coordinator
  • The other key roles in temporary works and how they interact
  • Using BS 5975:2019 and BS 5975-1:2024 in the coordinator role
  • Typical temporary works documents – registers, design briefs, checks and permits
  • Other legislation and guidance that interacts with temporary works
  • The four Cs – communication, coordination, cooperation and competence
  • Risk management for temporary works

Assessment / Examination

Delegates must complete at least four mandatory exercises, the learner review and the trainer review, then pass a 45-minute open-book exam of 22 questions (18 multiple choice and four free text). The pass mark is 78% and the course workbook, including delegates' own notes, may be used throughout.

Certification

Successful delegates receive the CITB Site Safety Plus TWCTC certificate as a PDF, valid for five years. The course must be retaken before expiry to remain certified.

Related Content

After completing the course, learners can order their certificate directly from the provider.

To join online courses, delegates have to log in via a link provided through a computer or laptop with a camera, screen, microphone and access to the internet.

Connection quality is the responsibility of the delegate. If you need to download free video conferencing software please visit our video conferencing software page where you can download the software specified by Pragmatic Consulting.

E-learning and Online (Instructor-led) training is more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective.

Short online courses also help employers to demonstrate that they have fulfilled their legal duties to ensure their personnel have been adequately trained.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.

You will receive a confirmation email with your order details and your course login details will follow within one business working day.

Please note that course bookings can not be processed outside of normal working hours, over weekends or on bank holidays and will be processed the next business working day.

Pragmatic Consulting is a CITB Approved Training Organisation based at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, trading since 2014 and better known in the utility world than the construction one, where most of its work is with gas, water and power contractors. The CITB range listed here – nine Site Safety Plus courses – is delivered almost entirely live over Zoom, which makes it a practical choice for utility firms whose site teams need SMSTS, SSSTS or temporary works tickets without leaving the depot for a week.

Envico Limited is an independent intermediary working in association with Pragmatic Consulting. Envico is not accredited by or associated with examination bodies or institutions in any way. All courses advertised on this website are advertised and delivered by independent and established accredited or approved training providers.
