Course Overview

A standalone NEBOSH qualification that gives a broad understanding of workplace environmental issues and helps you manage environmental risks effectively. The emphasis is on practical environmental management, in line with UK and international standards. The certificate is accepted by CIWEM towards Technician Membership (TechCIWEM).

Managers, supervisors, health and safety practitioners and anyone with environmental responsibilities who needs a recognised NEBOSH qualification.

Course Content

Unit EMC1 – Management and Control of Environmental Hazards:

• Foundations in environmental management
• Environmental management systems
• Environmental impact assessments
• Control of emissions to air
• Contamination of water sources
• Waste and land use
• Energy and energy efficiency
• Environmental noise
• Planning for environmental emergencies

Unit EMC2 – Environmental Practical Application: an environmental review of your own workplace, or another suitable environment, with recommendations for improvement.

Assessment / Examination

EMC1 is an open-book examination, taken after the taught week on a date confirmed with your booking. EMC2 is a practical environmental review carried out in a real or simulated workplace.

Course Duration

5 days, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Delivered in a classroom at Technology House, High Post Business Park, Amesbury, Wiltshire, SP4 6AT – just off the A345 between Amesbury and Salisbury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a health and safety qualification first?

No. This is a standalone qualification and does not require the NEBOSH General Certificate.

Does this count towards professional membership?

Yes. CIWEM accepts the certificate towards Technician Membership (TechCIWEM).

When is the exam?

The EMC1 open-book exam is taken after the taught week, on a date confirmed when you book.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.
