What is the UKATA Non-Licensed Asbestos Removal Refresher (B3) Course?
The annual UKATA refresher for people undertaking, or supervising, non-licensed asbestos removal work such as removing floor tiles or asbestos cement. It is delivered by a UKATA-approved training centre and keeps a non-licensed certificate current for a further 12 months. UKATA advises that the appropriate asbestos removal refresher is taken every year.
Who is the Non-Licensed Refresher Course Suitable For?
Anyone who has passed initial UKATA non-licensed asbestos removal training or a previous refresher within the last 12 months. Candidates must provide evidence of their previous training certificate. Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 every employer must ensure adequate information, instruction and training for employees who are, or may be, exposed to asbestos, and for anyone supervising them.
What's Included in the Non-Licensed Refresher Course?
Tutor-led refresher training shaped by a training needs analysis, the UKATA B3 assessment and a UKATA certificate on success.
Delivery Method
Classroom at the provider's training centre at Kingsley Place, Mote Road, Maidstone, Kent. Weekday sessions start at 8.30am and Saturday sessions at 7.30am.
Course Duration
Usually 1 day (6 hours); the actual duration is set by the instructor after a training needs analysis.

- What work is classified as non-licensed
- The use of PPE
- Control measures for working safely with non-licensed asbestos-containing materials (ACMs)
- Drilling holes through AIB and textured coating
- Removal of small AIB panels
- Removal of asbestos cement-based products
- Removal of asbestos-containing articles such as floor tiles and gaskets
- Preventing the spread of asbestos
- Controlling exposure and air monitoring
- Dealing with waste from non-licensed ACMs
- Decontamination procedures
- Record keeping
Assessment / Examination
The UKATA Non-Licensable Work with Asbestos B3 assessment.
Certification
Successful delegates receive a UKATA certificate allowing them to work safely with non-licensed asbestos-containing materials for 12 months from the date of issue. A further refresher should be completed within a year.
