River Training Services
Mental Health First Aid and IOSH Across the Midlands
River Training Services runs mental health first aid at four Midlands venues — Wolverhampton, Coventry, Leicester and Derby — alongside IOSH and fire safety. Delivering mental health training across that many locations is unusual, and it makes the course practical for organisations with sites spread across the region rather than concentrated in one city.
Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid at Wolverhampton, Coventry, Leicester and Derby. The qualification for people taking on a designated mental health first aider role — recognising when someone is struggling, having the conversation, and knowing what to do next. It is a defined role rather than general awareness.
IOSH
IOSH Managing Safely at Wolverhampton, Leicester and Chelmarsh in Shropshire. The three-day qualification for supervisors and managers with day-to-day responsibility. Browse all IOSH courses.
Fire safety
Level 2 Award in Fire Safety at Wolverhampton, Leicester and Coventry — suitable for fire marshals and wardens. See all fire safety courses.
Mindset workshops
Mindset Workshops at Wolverhampton and Coventry — development sessions sitting alongside the formal qualifications, aimed at resilience and personal effectiveness rather than a certificate.
Does having mental health first aiders actually help?
It helps most when the role is part of something wider. A trained first aider gives people a recognised person to approach and someone equipped to respond rather than freeze — which is real value. But it does not substitute for managing workload, or for occupational health and referral routes. Organisations that train first aiders and change nothing else tend to find the role wears thin on the people holding it.
