NEBOSH qualifications
Four NEBOSH certificates at Plymouth in classroom or hybrid: the National General Certificate, Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK), the Certificate in Fire Safety, and the Environmental Management Certificate. General, Construction and Fire Safety are also available by distance learning, alongside the NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work.
CDM — by duty holder role
Three separate CDM courses rather than one generic session: CDM for Designers and Principal Designers, CDM for Contractors and Principal Contractors, and CDM: An Overview — each in classroom at Plymouth and live online. Mental health — the full MHFA range
MHFAider at Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton and online, the MHFAider Refresher, MHFA Champions at Plymouth and Exeter, and Mental Health Aware. Four levels rather than one course — Aware for general understanding, Champions as a lighter role, MHFAider as the full designated first aider qualification, and the refresher to keep it current.
First aid
First Aid at Work at Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol with requalification, Emergency First Aid at Work at five centres, and a First Aid Annual Skills Update. HSE recommends that annual refresher between three-yearly certificates, since first aid skills fade noticeably without practice. See all first aid courses.
Scaffold and working at height
Managing and Inspecting Scaffolds at Taunton, Newquay, Bristol and online, and Managing Scaffold Activities at five centres. Plus Working Safely at Heights, PASMA Towers for Users including AGR, Safe Use and Inspection of Harnesses and Lanyards, and Safe Use and Inspection of Ladders and Steps. Asbestos — awareness to duty to manage
UKATA Asbestos Awareness and its refresher across four centres and online, Non-Licensed Operative and its refresher, and UKATA Duty to Manage Asbestos with refresher at Plymouth. The full progression: recognition for trades, Category B for operatives disturbing asbestos, and Regulation 4 duty holder training for whoever manages the premises.
Building Safety Act, HHSRS and auditing
A Building Safety Act Overview and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) course, both live online — genuinely current material that most catalogues have not caught up with. Plus an ISO Internal Auditor course and the ISEP Foundation Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management at Plymouth.
Practical and specialist short courses
COSHH Assessment Workshop, Risk Assessment Workshop, Accident Investigation, DSE Assessment Workshop, Legionella Awareness, Fire Warden and Fire Safety Management, Manual Handling with an Instructor and Assessor route, Face Fit testing, PAT testing, Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus, abrasive wheels, petrol cut-off saws, and pallet racking safety.
Which South West centre?
Plymouth carries by far the fullest range and is the only venue for NEBOSH classroom, CDM, ISO auditing, ISEP and several specialist courses. Exeter and Taunton cover most of the core range. Newquay is the practical option for Cornwall, where the alternative is a long drive to Plymouth. Bristol serves the north of the region and the Severn corridor. Check the specific course runs at your nearest centre before travelling.
