CPCS A61 Appointed Person - Lifting Operations Course in Newark, Nottinghamshire
This course is aimed at supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations. It will give candidates an understanding of the Appointed Person’s responsibilities, how to fulfil them and the skills and ability to interpret and apply sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the BS 7121 Safe Use of Cranes guidelines.

Observe regulations and Codes of Practice Follow safe systems of work including method statements Take personal responsibility Describe different types of cranes and associated terminology Understand crane documentation Understand crane stability, duty charts and safety devices Appreciate tower cranes Observe British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes Guidelines sections 1, 2, 3 and 4. Recognise the role of appointed persons Plan a lift
Entry Requirements
- In order to be eligible to undertake CPCS testing, candidates must have achieved the relevant Managers CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
- Candidates should have sufficient experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in British
- Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes. Good understanding of spoken and written English.
Assessment
- Four (4) Days Training – Classroom-based
- Practical Training One (1) Day
- CPCS Testing
Accreditation and Certification
CPCS - successful candidates will be issued with a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (valid for 2 years).

Next Steps
To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts and a Managers Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years
