Who is the Fire Warden Training Course Suitable For?

This Fire Warden course is intended for those given the responsibility of fire warden as delegates will be taught how to assist an organisation in meeting their responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Course Background

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the ‘responsible person’ to establish appropriate emergency procedures including safety drills and to nominate a sufficient number of competent persons to implement those procedures. The number of competent persons required and the level of training will depend on the findings of a fire risk assessment.

This course aims to equip those with responsibilities for implementing these plans with sufficient knowledge to do so safely.

  • Fire statistics and high-profile examples
  • Relevant legislation with focus on the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • The chemistry of fire – the fire triangle and classes of fire
  • Methods of fire spread in buildings including ‘flashover’ and ‘backdraft’
  • Fire prevention techniques including housekeeping, storage and safe working practices
  • Fire precautions including compartmentation, fire detection, fire escape strategies and extinguishers
  • Emergency planning and drills
  • The duties of a fire warden including drills, inspections and routine equipment checks
  • Practical use of water and foam fire extinguishers – classroom courses only

Assessment and Certification

Delegates will be assessed on their input during the practical course and on the course. SSG course attendance certification will be issued on successful completion of training and is valid for three years.
