FMVA, CMSA and Financial Analyst Certifications by E-Learning
The Corporate Finance Institute offers self-paced certification programmes in financial modelling, valuation and capital markets — practical, applied qualifications aimed at analysts rather than academic finance courses. The FMVA is the best known of them and has become a recognised credential in investment banking, corporate finance and equity research.
FMVA — Financial Modelling & Valuation Analyst
The flagship certification, covering financial modelling in Excel, valuation methods including DCF and comparables, budgeting and forecasting, and presenting analysis. It is built around building models from scratch rather than reading about them, which is what makes it useful to someone actually doing the work.
CMSA — Capital Markets & Securities Analyst
Covering sales and trading, fixed income, derivatives and market structure. Aimed at people working in or moving towards capital markets rather than corporate finance — a different skill set from modelling, and the natural alternative to FMVA depending on where you sit.
FPWMP — Financial Planning & Wealth Management
For advisers and wealth management professionals, covering client planning, portfolio construction and the advisory relationship. Plus a broader library of finance and banking e-learning courses for those wanting individual topics rather than a full certification.
Which certification?
FMVA if your work involves building models, valuing companies or analysing corporate performance — it is the broadest and most transferable. CMSA if you are in or heading for trading, sales or markets. FPWMP if you advise private clients. They are parallel specialisms rather than a progression, so pick the one matching your actual role rather than collecting them.
