Online US Teacher Certification and Master's Degrees in Education
Moreland University is an online, teacher-focused university established in 2011 and based in Washington DC. It offers a route into teaching for career changers and a way for practising educators to formalise their experience, through a teacher certification programme leading to a US teaching licence and three master's degrees in education. Everything is delivered online in a cohort model, with start dates every month rather than fixed academic terms, which is what makes the programmes workable for people already teaching or living outside the United States.
TEACH-NOW® Teacher Preparation Certificate Program
The flagship programme and the reason most candidates come to Moreland. It is a full teacher preparation route rather than a short course, built around activity-based modules and a clinical practice placement that candidates arrange in a school near them. Completion leads to eligibility for a US teaching licence, which is why it draws international educators as well as US-based career changers. Cohorts start monthly.
Master's in Education — degree and certification together
This route absorbs the TEACH-NOW certification into the degree itself rather than treating them as two separate steps. For anyone who knows from the outset that they want both the licence and the master's, it is the efficient option. Specialisations are available to shape the qualification around a particular career direction.
Master's in Educational Leadership
Aimed at teachers who already hold a classroom post and now want to lead a department, phase or school. Covers instructional leadership, managing people and change in a school setting, and using evidence to drive improvement across a team rather than a single classroom. Delivered online in cohorts, so it runs alongside a full teaching timetable.
Master's in Globalization & Education Research
The research-oriented route, and the one aimed outward rather than at a single school. It examines how education systems are structured and delivered across different national contexts and what transfers between them. Useful preparation for doctoral study, and for staff in international schools where comparative context matters day to day. Priced slightly above the other two master's programmes.
Tuition, payment plans and what is included
Tuition covers all course materials, with no separate book or technology fees and no application fee. Every programme can be paid in full or spread across a payment plan, and a one-time registration fee is included either way. Fees are set and charged in US dollars by the provider, so figures shown here are a guide, correct at the time of listing and subject to change. Check the current rate before committing.
A US licence is not UK QTS — read this first
These are United States qualifications. A US teaching licence is widely recognised by international schools and is a genuine route into teaching abroad, including across Asia and the Middle East. It is not an award of UK Qualified Teacher Status, and it does not by itself qualify the holder to teach in a UK state school. Anyone whose goal is a UK maintained-sector post should check the current QTS requirements before enrolling on a programme at this price.
Who these programmes suit
Career changers moving into teaching from another field; international educators seeking a US licence in order to teach at international schools; teaching assistants and unqualified classroom staff wanting formal certification; practising teachers moving toward leadership; and educators heading for policy, research or doctoral work.
