CITB Site Safety Plus and IOSH Managing Safely in Telford, Shropshire
The Health & Safety Service runs the CITB Site Safety Plus range from Telford, including both refreshers, alongside IOSH Managing Safely. It is a consultancy as well as a training centre — the team hold Chartered membership of IOSH and work to the ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards — which shows in a range built around the qualifications a Shropshire contractor actually needs rather than a broad catalogue.

Health and Safety Awareness — the green card route
CITB Health and Safety Awareness is the one-day entry course and carries the most dates of anything in this range. It is the qualification step towards a green CSCS labourer card — the CITB HS&E touchscreen test and the card application are separate steps, so allow for those before anyone is due on site.
IOSH Managing Safely
IOSH Managing Safely at Telford — three days for anyone with day-to-day responsibility for people or activities. Unlike the CITB cards it is not construction-specific, which makes it the right choice for managers in manufacturing, logistics, facilities or any workplace where a site card would be beside the point. SMSTS or SSSTS — which one?
It follows the role rather than the job title. SSSTS is for supervisors, foremen and gangers — people responsible for a team and a task. SMSTS is for those managing the site itself: planning, method statements, coordinating trades and dealing with the principal contractor duties. Both cards last five years. Sending a site manager on SSSTS is the common misjudgement, because it leaves them without the management content the role needs.
Covering Shropshire and the west Midlands
Telford sits on the M54 between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, practical for Shropshire, Staffordshire, the Black Country and mid Wales, and reachable from Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and Chester. For a contractor working the Welsh border it removes the usual drive east for a CITB card.
