The IPAF 1b, 3a & 3b Operator course trains delegates to safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) across three categories: 1b (static boom), 3a (mobile vertical – scissor lifts) and 3b (mobile boom – cherry pickers). Delivered at Nationwide Platforms’ Dundee training centre by award-winning IPAF-accredited instructors.

Who is this course for?

Operators who need to work across static booms, scissor lifts and mobile booms, as well as those renewing an existing PAL card. No prior experience is required, but delegates must be physically fit and able to understand spoken and written English.

What does the course cover?

  • Pre-use inspection and machine familiarisation across all three categories
  • Safe set-up and operation of static boom, scissor and mobile boom MEWPs
  • Relevant health and safety legislation and site responsibilities
  • Hazard awareness and safe working at height
  • Theory and practical assessment to IPAF standards

Certification

Successful delegates receive the IPAF 1b, 3a and 3b qualifications and an IPAF Certificate of Training, accessible via the IPAF ePAL app. A physical PAL card can be arranged for an additional charge. The qualification is valid for five years.

Will I get a physical PAL card?
Certification is issued digitally via the IPAF ePAL app. A physical card can be arranged with the training department for an additional charge.

Will I receive joining instructions?
Yes. You will receive a confirmation email with your order details, and joining instructions will follow within one business working day.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.

For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.

All you need to complete our e-learning courses is a computer, tablet or smartphone and an internet connection.

The course experience is optimised if using Microsoft Edge, IOS 9 onwards, and Google Chrome.

Please note: the course assessment will not run on Firefox.
