CITB Director's Role for Health & Safety (DRHS) in Knowsley, Merseyside
The CITB Director's Role for Health & Safety course is aimed at directors and senior managers, with the purpose of recognising the human, economical and financial implications of non-compliance with health and safety legislation. The course provides a summary of how to promote a positive health and safety culture within an organisation. Workshop exercises throughout the day give delegates the opportunity to discuss their thoughts about health and safety and their responsibilities in an open forum.
This is a one-day course, accredited by CITB.
Course content
- Moral and human costs, and the implications of decisions made in the boardroom
- The economic implications of an unsafe working environment
- The legal responsibilities with regard to health and safety
- The principles and importance of the risk assessment process
- Appointing competent health and safety assistance, and the limitations of such an appointment
- The basic tools of introducing a proactive health and safety culture
Who the course is for
This course has been developed for directors and senior managers active in a health and safety strategic role in the built environment, from any organisational size in construction, civil engineering or allied trades. Relevant roles include financial and operations directors, senior and private quantity surveyors, principal designers, senior and principal engineers, company secretaries, contracts managers, senior project managers, and non-executive directors.
Pre-requisites
Delegates must be able to demonstrate either previous completion of a CITB Director's Role for Health and Safety course, or a working knowledge of the following legislation, since the course content and end-of-course assessment require delegates to consider these in the context of a director's role and responsibility:
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
- Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969
- Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
CITB has created a DRHS eLearning course to support learners, providing content for the learning outcomes. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete and can be paused and resumed. The pre-course eLearning is accessed via the CITB eCourses website.
Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of director or a strategic senior role, and must be competent in English at senior management level.

Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written parental consent before the course.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.
For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.
