SPA Petrol Retail Contractors Safety Passport Course in Birmingham

The SPA Petrol Retail course is aimed at those who control work on forecourts and work in the petrol retail sector. It is a two-day course: Day 1 is the Core Day, and Day 2 focuses specifically on the petrol retail sector.

Who is the Course For?

Contractors and supervisors who work on, or control work on, petrol filling station forecourts. Certain existing health and safety qualifications allow a delegate to be exempt from the Day 1 Core requirement.

Two days.

Course Content

SPA Core Day (Day 1) — general health and safety applicable to many industries:

  • Organising for safety: responsibilities and risk assessment
  • The workplace: general safety, behavioural safety, fire safety, working at height, asbestos and confined spaces
  • Tools, plant and machinery: safe use of hand-held tools and electrical safety
  • Health: hygiene, hazardous substances, occupational diseases and manual handling
  • Procedures: safe systems of work, first aid and road safety
  • The environment: waste, pollution and employer and employee responsibilities

SPA Petrol Retail Day (Day 2) — the unique risks of a petrol filling station:

  • Fuel hazards: properties of fuels and associated hazards
  • DSEAR and zone classification: hazardous area zoning
  • Delivery hazards: risks associated with fuel deliveries
  • Vapour recovery: safety implications of vapour recovery systems
  • Restricted and hazardous areas: identifying these on a forecourt
  • Customer and contractor hazards: specific risks from customers and contractors on site
  • Controlling work on a forecourt: communication, safety method statements, clearance certificates, permits to work and task classification

Core Day Exemption

Delegates holding one of the qualifications below may be exempt from Day 1 and need attend only Day 2. Any qualification must have been obtained in a classroom, as e-learning is not accepted by UKPIA. Evidence of exemption, such as a copy of the course certificate, must be provided before booking or attending.

  • CCNSG Passport to Safety
  • IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Supervising Safely
  • NEBOSH Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma
  • CITB SSSTS, CITB SMSTS, or CITB Site Safety for Shopfitters and Interior Contractors
  • CIEH Basic Health and Safety (replaced by Level 2)
  • FÁS Safe Pass
  • ADT health and safety module
  • Rentokil SHE training module

Qualifications without an expiry date must have been obtained within the last three years. If you qualify for the exemption, get in touch before booking and we will arrange the Day 2 only option. If you are unsure, attending the full two-day course will refresh and update your health and safety knowledge.
