Carney Consultancy
CITB Site Safety, Face Fit and Practical Training in North Shields, Tyne and Wear
Carney Consultancy delivers the full CITB Site Safety Plus range from a single centre in North Shields, alongside IOSH and a set of practical courses aimed at the work that actually happens on site — locating buried services, cutting with abrasive wheels, working at height, and fit testing respiratory protection. For North East construction and civils employers it covers cards, competence and practical skills without splitting a workforce across providers.
Site safety management — CITB
The complete Site Safety Plus range at North Shields: SMSTS and its two-day refresher, SSSTS and its one-day refresher, and Health and Safety Awareness — the one-day entry course that underpins the green CSCS labourer card. Both SMSTS and SSSTS last five years, and the refreshers must be completed before expiry or you sit the full course again. See all CITB courses.
Directors Role for Health and Safety
The CITB DRHS course, a one-day session aimed at board level. Comparatively few centres run it. Directors carry personal liability under health and safety law, and that responsibility is not discharged by having trained managers underneath them — DRHS addresses governance and accountability rather than day-to-day risk assessment.
IOSH
IOSH Managing Safely at North Shields — the three-day qualification for supervisors and managers with day-to-day responsibility for people or activities. Browse all IOSH courses.
Service location and practical skills
CAT and Genny for locating buried services before excavation, abrasive wheels covering safe mounting and use, manual handling, and Safe Working at Height. Striking an underground service is among the most serious risks in groundworks, and competent use of a cable avoidance tool is what stands between a survey and a strike. Browse all working at height courses.
Asbestos and first aid
IATP Asbestos Awareness for anyone whose work might disturb asbestos-containing materials — recognition and what to do on discovery, not authorisation to work with it. Plus Emergency First Aid at Work. See all first aid courses.
Why train your own face fit tester?
Face Fit Train the Tester qualifies your own staff to carry out RPE fit testing in house. Testing has to be repeated whenever someone changes mask type, gains or loses significant weight, or has dental work — so for any employer with a sizeable RPE-wearing workforce it is a recurring cost and a recurring delay. Holding the competence internally means new starters can be fitted on day one rather than waiting for a visit.
Covering the North East
North Shields sits on the north bank of the Tyne, practical for delegates from Newcastle, Gateshead, Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and North Tyneside, and within reach of Sunderland, Durham, Morpeth, Ashington and the Northumberland coast. The Tyne tunnels make the south bank and Teesside workable for a single-day course.
