Construction NVQs from Trade Level to Level 7, Plus IWFM Facilities Management
PIP Services offers one of the widest ProQual NVQ ranges on the site — eight trade qualifications at Level 2, a supervisory and management progression running all the way to Level 7, a separate occupational health and safety stream at Levels 3 and 6, and the IWFM facilities management ladder at Levels 4 and 5. Everything is distance learning with portfolio assessment, so no attendance is required and the qualifications are available internationally as well as across the UK.
Level 2 trade diplomas — eight trades
Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Services, Trowel Occupations (bricklaying and plastering), Wood Occupations (joinery and carpentry), Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting, Cladding Occupations, Wall and Floor Tiling, Interior Systems (drylining and partitioning), and Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment. Levels 3 and 4 — supervision
Level 3 Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision and Level 3 in Construction Contracting Operations, then the Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Supervision. These cover supervising work and people rather than performing the trade, and support gold CSCS card applications.
Levels 6 and 7 — management and senior management
Level 6 NVQ Site Management in Construction and the Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management, both routes to a black CSCS manager card. Above those sits the Level 7 Diploma in Construction Senior Management — the top of the ProQual construction ladder, for directors and senior contracts staff, and rare enough that most providers do not carry it at all.
Occupational health and safety NVQs
A separate stream from the construction ladder: the Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, and the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice. The Level 6 reaches the same level as a NEBOSH diploma but assesses evidence of what you already do at work rather than examining you — which suits experienced practitioners without a formal qualification far better than starting a taught diploma. IWFM facilities management — Levels 4 and 5
The
IWFM ladder in
facilities management: Level 4 Award, Certificate and Diploma, then Level 5 Certificate and Diploma. The three Level 4 sizes are the same standard at different volumes — Award is the smallest commitment, Diploma the full qualification — so you can start at Award and build. Level 5 moves from managing facilities to managing the function strategically. Awarded by the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management, the professional body for the sector.
How does distance learning NVQ work?
You evidence what you already do at work — photographs, job records, method statements, witness testimony from a supervisor — assessed remotely against the qualification standards. No exam, no attendance, and no fixed start date, which is why these products carry no course dates. An assessor guides what evidence is needed and reviews it as you build the portfolio. The pace is largely yours, which is an advantage if you are working and a risk if you are not disciplined.
Which trade qualification matches my work?
Pick the one describing what you actually do day to day, since the portfolio must evidence real work. Trowel Occupations covers bricklaying and plastering. Wood Occupations covers carpentry and joinery. Interior Systems covers drylining, partitions and suspended ceilings. Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment is the one for maintenance operatives who genuinely span several trades rather than specialising. If your work spans two, choose the one that dominates — you cannot evidence a trade you rarely perform.
