Your Card While You Train

Once you are enrolled you can apply for the red Experienced Worker CSCS card, which shows you are working towards an NVQ. It is issued for one year, cannot be renewed, and requires a current CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the appropriate level. On completing the qualification you apply for the blue Skilled Worker card.

How Long It Takes

You have two years to complete the qualification. Most candidates finish in around three months, and it can be done in as little as four weeks if you have the evidence and the time to gather it. Progress is tracked through a personalised e-portfolio, with feedback from your assessor as you go.

Mandatory Units

  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace

Optional Units

The remaining units are chosen to match the plastering work you carry out, covering solid and fibrous pathways such as internal solid plastering finishes, external solid render finishes, and producing and fixing fibrous plaster components. Your assessor confirms the exact combination with you at enrolment.

Assessment

Candidates must demonstrate the level of knowledge described in the unit. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. Assessment guidance is included to assure consistency. Each candidate is required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:
  • assignments/projects/reports
  • worksheets
  • portfolio of evidence
  • record of oral and/or written questioning
  • candidate test papers

Certification

Candidates who achieve the requirements for qualifications will be awarded:
  • A certificate listing the unit achieved, and
  • A certificate giving the full qualification title: "ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction)"

Certification for this qualification is valid for life. The NVQ is CITB approved, and CITB grant funding may be available to eligible employers.

The natural next step is the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision, which leads to the gold CSCS card.
