NRSWA for Operatives – five days
The five-day
NRSWA Operatives course is for people who dig, backfill and reinstate in the road or footway. It covers locating and avoiding underground apparatus, signing, lighting and guarding, excavation, backfill and compaction, and reinstatement in bituminous materials, concrete and modular surfaces. A certificate is issued for each unit passed.
NRSWA for Supervisors – five days
The five-day
NRSWA Supervisors course is for those who oversee street works. It covers the same stages from the supervisor's side – monitoring signing, lighting and guarding, excavation, backfill and every type of reinstatement – along with locating and avoiding underground apparatus.
NRSWA Re-Assessment – one day
The one-day
NRSWA Re-Assessment is for operatives and supervisors whose SWQR card is due to expire. Anyone who has never trained, or whose qualification has lapsed beyond five years, needs the full foundation course instead. See all

Do I need an NRSWA qualification?
Under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, anyone carrying out excavation and reinstatement in the public highway must hold the relevant qualification, and each site must have a qualified operative and a qualified supervisor. The SWQR card is how utility companies and highway authorities check this on site.
