What is a Annual First Aid Refresher course?

This half-day Annual First Aid Refresher course is suitable for those who wish to follow the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) recommendation that first aiders have annual refresher training to maintain their skills and keep up to date with any changes which may happen between completing a First Aid at Work course and requalifying three years later.

It is designed for anyone who wishes to refresh their existing First Aid at Work training. The HSE strongly recommends that all first aiders holding a valid First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate complete an annual skills update.

Day 1

The course content on day 1 includes:

• Welcome and introduction
• Dealing with an emergency
  Assessing a casualty, monitoring a casualty and where to get help.
• Unresponsive and breathing adult
• Unresponsive and not breathing adult
• Unresponsive and not breathing
  AED awareness
• Choking adult
• Shock and internal bleeding
• Hygiene techniques
• Bleeding and wounds
  Small wounds and bruises, small blisters and splinters, nose-bleed, bleeding heavily from a wound (limb, object in a wound bandages).
• Seizures

Delegates who successfully complete a British Red Cross First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work Requalification course are awarded a British Red Cross certificate, valid for three years. Certificates are issued by the British Red Cross after the course.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that workplace first aiders also complete a first aid skills update once a year to keep their skills fresh between requalifications.
