CPCS A31 Ride on Roller (Experienced Operator) in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

This course is for operators who already work with ride on rollers and need CPCS A31 certification. Training focuses on ironing out bad habits and preparing you for the technical test rather than teaching the machine from scratch.

If you have limited or no experience of the machine, book the two-day novice course instead.

Delivery Method

Delivered at the accredited training centre at Rings End, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, PE13 4DE. CPCS courses can only be held at an accredited centre and cannot be delivered at your own premises.

Course Criteria

• You must have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test within the previous two years.
• Recommended for delegates who are already experienced with the machine.

Course Content

On completion you will be able to:

• Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components, controls and gauges
• Comply with manufacturers' instructions and applicable legislation
• Carry out all pre-use and running checks
• Set the roller for site travel and travel over differing terrain including undulating ground
• Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction
• Set the roller for compaction duties and prepare an area prior to compacting
• Compact different materials to given instructions, up to supported and unsupported edges, against radii and around obstructions
• Recognise compacted and uncompacted areas
• State conditions that may cause instability, and safety procedures for unsupported edges and inclines
• Explain loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
• Place the roller in an out-of-service condition

Certification

Successful delegates receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator card. To upgrade to a blue competence card you will need to complete the relevant Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations. The same course is available under NPORS as category N214.
