What is a Fire Marshal Training Course?
Fire Marshal training is a half-day course designed to give nominated staff the knowledge and confidence to carry out the duties of a fire marshal or fire warden. UK fire safety legislation requires employers to have adequate fire safety arrangements in place, which includes appointing and training a sufficient number of competent persons to assist with fire safety duties such as evacuation.
The course is suitable for anyone who has been given fire marshal or fire warden responsibilities, as well as employers, managers and supervisors who want a better understanding of fire safety in the workplace. No previous fire safety training is required.

What Does Fire Marshal Training Cover?
This half-day course prepares learners to carry out the role of fire marshal in their workplace. The course covers:
- the role and responsibilities of a fire marshal
- an overview of fire safety legislation and the duties of employers and employees
- how fires start and spread, including common causes of fire in the workplace
- fire prevention and good housekeeping
- what to do on discovering a fire, including raising the alarm
- evacuation procedures and assisting others to evacuate safely
- types of fire extinguisher and when it is safe to tackle a fire.
Learning and Assessment
How are learners assessed?
Learners are continuously evaluated during the course through interactive question and answer sessions, group discussion and practical activities. These activities are designed to guide and assist learners in gaining the necessary skills and ensure they can apply their knowledge safely within their workplace.
How long is the Fire Marshal training course?
The course is delivered in a single half-day session lasting three and a half hours. Depending on the date selected, sessions run in the morning or the afternoon; the session times are shown against each course date.
Certification
Upon successfully completing the course, learners will receive a Fire Marshal training certificate from the British Red Cross. There is no fixed legal expiry for fire marshal training, however refresher training is generally recommended every three years, or sooner where your fire risk assessment identifies the need.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is important you select individuals who you feel will be able to act quickly and calmly in the event of a fire.
Suitable for learners over the age of 16.
