The IOSH Working Safely course is designed to train up employees to abide by essential health and safety practices in the workplace. Through the one-day training course, delegates will develop health & safety awareness skills to identify and deal with common hazards and learn why this is important to maintaining a productive and safe working environment.
Developed by leading health and safety membership organisation, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), IOSH Working Safely is an incredibly valuable certification that is available to all employees from any industry sector.
What is the IOSH Working Safely course?
IOSH Working Safely is one of the most popular introductory health and safety training courses.
The IOSH Working Safely course is recognised as an equivalent to the Health and Safety Executive’s ‘Passport’ syllabus. It’s designed to equip employees with a basic knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety practices, in line with the Government’s guidelines, that ensures the well-being of the individual and the colleagues around them.
Am I eligible for the IOSH Working Safely course?
The IOSH Working Safely course is open to all employees from any size of organisation in any industry sector. There are no prerequisites for the course.

Course Content
The IOSH Working Safely course content is split into 4 main modules. The course covers:
- Module 1: Introducing working safely
- Module 2: Defining hazard and risk
- Module 3: Identifying common hazards
- Module 4: Improving safety performance
At the end of the training course, employees will:
- Understand the importance of working safely.
- Be able to differentiate between common hazards & risks.
- Be competent at identifying and controlling hazards & risks.
- Understand the importance of safety performance within the workplace and how to improve it.
How is the IOSH Working Safely assessed?
The IOSH Working Safely course assessment is two-fold. There is a 10 question multiple-choice test and a practical hazard-spotting exercise, each of which lasts 15 minutes.
If you take part in the classroom-based training course, both the assessments will be completed at the end of the course.

For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.
To join online courses, delegates have to log in via a link provided through a computer or laptop with a camera, screen, microphone and access to the internet.

Short online courses also help employers to demonstrate that they have fulfilled their legal duties to ensure their personnel have been adequately trained.
Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.
