Breathing Apparatus Training for Hazardous and Confined Space Work
On this SCBA course, delegates wear, carry, operate and breathe using a designated self contained breathing apparatus within a controlled training simulator, wearing approved breathing apparatus with a face mask and full PPE. The training covers the safe and effective use of SCBA for work in hazardous atmospheres where breathing protection is essential.

Course Content
- The hazards SCBA protects against and the health effects of exposure
- When SCBA must be used and the wearer's responsibilities
- Selecting the right type of SCBA and face fit testing
- How SCBA works, its capabilities and limitations
- Pre-use inspection, donning, doffing and fit checks
- Emergency procedures while wearing SCBA
- Cleaning, post-use inspection, storage and reporting faults
Certification
Successful delegates receive a SOTA Breathing Apparatus e-certificate, valid for one year. Refresher training should be completed at least annually to maintain competence.

What to Bring
Delegates must be clean shaven. Clean PPE: hard hat with chin strap, coverall, protective footwear, gloves, eye protection and knee pads.

Yes. Facial hair prevents a proper face mask seal, so delegates must be clean shaven.
Are there medical requirements?
Employers and delegates must declare any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect SCBA use, such as claustrophobia, asthma or heart conditions.

At least once a year.
