8hr NMLS MLO Continuing Education Course Online

Under the SAFE Act, licensed Mortgage Loan Originators must complete at least eight hours of NMLS-approved continuing education each year to keep their license active. This combo covers the full annual requirement.

It pairs a 7-hour approved federal core course (#18551) with a 1-hour elective (#18603), available as either a state-specific or a general elective depending on the state. A new CE course must be completed each renewal year.

Course Content

• The Truth in Lending Act and its role in mortgage compliance
• Core ethics and consumer protection in mortgage lending
• Understanding non-traditional mortgage lending
• Elective: navigating construction and specialised mortgage products

Assessment

A final exam closes the course, taking around 20 minutes on average.

Deadlines

For most states the official NMLS continuing education deadline is 31 December, but several state regulators require completion well before then. Providers are legally permitted up to seven days to report completed hours, which can leave a license lapsing on 1 January if education is left late. Reporting here is submitted the following day. A separate late CE route is available for anyone who has missed a deadline.
