NMLS-Approved Mortgage Loan Originator Training, Online and Self-Paced

24hourEDU is a Milwaukee-based online education provider specialising in licensing and continuing education for Mortgage Loan Originators across the United States. Every course is pre-approved by the NMLS, delivered entirely online at the learner's own pace, and taught by instructors drawn from the mortgage industry rather than from a classroom background.

20-Hour SAFE National pre-licensing course
The 20-Hour SAFE Comprehensive course (NMLS #16623) is the foundation requirement for a Mortgage Loan Originator license, and the hours count toward licensure in every state. It runs across seven modules of narrated video with a full script displayed alongside, and a short multiple-choice checkpoint quiz closing each module. NMLS rules require the 20 hours to be completed within 14 calendar days of starting, though learners can work ahead at any hour.
State-specific SAFE law courses
Around thirty states require dedicated state law hours on top of the national 20, typically two to four hours of self-paced study. Approved offerings include Vermont (2 hours, NMLS #18671), Rhode Island (3 hours, NMLS #18869) and West Virginia (4 hours, NMLS #18667), with California, Florida and Texas among the other states carrying their own requirement. Roughly twenty states, including Illinois, Georgia and Virginia, require no state hours at all.
Annual continuing education
Under the SAFE Act, licensed originators must complete at least eight hours of NMLS-approved education each year to keep their license active. The 8-Hour SAFE CE Combo covers the required core: three hours of federal law, two of ethics, two of non-traditional mortgage lending and one elective or state-specific hour. Missing the NMLS submission deadlines can leave an originator unable to trade from 1 January, so the timing matters as much as the content.
NMLS credit reporting
Completed hours are reported to the NMLS banking portal against the learner's unique identifier, at no additional charge. Reporting is typically submitted within one business day of completion. Where a learner completes the national 20-hour course, an applicable state law course is assigned to their account free of charge.
Format and learner support
Courses are fully online and mobile-friendly, built around pre-recorded narrated video with accompanying transcripts, and include SAFE exam preparation materials and practice tests. Instructor support is built into the learning environment, with questions answered by the course author six days a week.
