Course Outline
This qualification is for those undertaking works applicable to medium risk confined spaces, particularly for the entry controller who manages entrants and associated arrangements. It covers pre-entry procedures, preparing entrants, safe use of tools and equipment, entry and exit procedures, communication control, and emergency arrangements including the use of an escape set.
Course Aims and Objectives
The aim of this unit is to follow the national occupational standard for works associated with medium risk confined spaces. Applicable to both water and non-water environments, it may include tasks in sewer treatment processes, tunnelling, drainage, and sewer systems or other spaces subject to specified risks.
Course Content
- Carry out all required safety checks
- Control entry/exit for workers and maintain communications
- Prepare to work safely in a confined space environment
- Enter and exit the confined space following all necessary procedures
- Use associated tools and equipment safely
- Follow all required procedures to work safely
- Understand how to deal with emergencies, including using an escape set
- Understand confined space workings and associated principles and regulations
