This EUSR Category 2 course runs at the PGL Midlands technical centre in Birmingham.

Course Duration

Six hours.

Classroom theory combined with practical training in a realistic environment. Tutors come from construction, utility and civil engineering backgrounds.

Who Should Attend

Operatives, supervisors and safety professionals who excavate, or oversee excavation of, holes and trenches around buried services.

Safe digging assumes the services have already been found. If you locate them yourself as well, the Combined Cat 1 & 2 course at this venue covers both in a single day for less than the two units separately.

What You'll Learn

• How to interpret utility drawings and identify symbols and coded information
• Safe digging technique using hand tools and hand-held power tools
• Site marking and preparation before excavation begins
• Excavating and maintaining holes and trenches safely

Assessment

A mix of theory and practical assessment.

Certification

Successful learners receive an EUSR photo ID card detailing the qualification.

Standards

Category 2 covers the minimum training and assessment required to safely excavate and maintain holes and trenches using both hand tools and hand-held power tools, and incorporates the relevant requirements of HSE guidance HSG47 and HSG150.
