EUSR Water Hygiene and SHEA Water Training — Online
PGL Midlands delivers the two EUSR credentials that govern access to water industry sites — National Water Hygiene, the blue card, and SHEA Water — both live online. Anyone working on drinking water assets or on water company sites generally needs one or both, and delivering them remotely removes the travel that used to make them awkward to obtain.
EUSR National Water Hygiene
The National Water Hygiene course — the blue card. Required for anyone whose work brings them into contact with assets carrying drinking water, since contamination introduced during maintenance is a genuine public health risk. It covers personal hygiene, health screening and safe working practices, and needs renewing every three years. See all EUSR courses.
EUSR SHEA Water
Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness for the water industry. SHEA covers the wider safety and environmental requirements of working on water company sites, beyond the hygiene-specific content of the blue card. Many water utility contracts require both.
Blue card or SHEA — which do I need?
National Water Hygiene is about protecting the water supply from contamination, and is required for work touching potable water assets. SHEA Water is about the safety and environmental requirements of the sites themselves. They answer different questions, so many contractors need both — check the specific requirement in your client's contract rather than assuming one covers the other.
How the online format works
Both courses are instructor-led at a set time rather than self-paced, with the same registration on the EUSR scheme and the same card issued. For a workforce spread across sites, or for someone who needs a card quickly before starting work, avoiding travel to a centre is the practical advantage.
