This combined Asbestos Awareness (CAT A) and Non-Licensed Asbestos Work (CAT B) course runs at the Vesey House training centre in Sutton Coldfield, delivered by PGL Midlands.

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, employers must ensure staff receive the appropriate level of asbestos training wherever there is a risk of disturbance.

What You'll Learn

CAT A Awareness

• The properties and health effects of asbestos
• Materials likely to contain asbestos
• Identifying asbestos and assessing the risk
• Preventive controls that minimise exposure
• Emergency procedures and safe working practices, including PPE and RPE
• Supervisor responsibilities and asbestos survey requirements

CAT B Non-Licensed Work

• Identifying non-licensed work with asbestos-containing materials
• Control measures for working with ACMs
• Specific tasks such as drilling, lifting floor tiles and repairing asbestos cement products
• Safe waste handling, decontamination and exposure control

Assessment

Theoretical and practical assessment covering the non-licensed element.

Certification

A fully accredited asbestos training certificate, with digital copies issued the same day.

Renewal

The certificate is valid for 12 months. Book a Non-Licensed Asbestos Works Refresher annually to stay compliant — this is a yearly booking rather than a one-off.

Good to Know

This course does not permit licensed asbestos removal. CAT A is awareness only; CAT B allows specified non-licensed tasks. Licensed removal requires separate Category C training. Asbestos awareness training is mandatory under Regulation 10 of CAR 2012 for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos at work.
