What is the UKATA Asbestos Awareness Course?

A half-day asbestos awareness course, accredited by UKATA or IATP, that meets the legal training duty for anyone whose work could foreseeably disturb asbestos-containing materials. It covers where asbestos is found, what exposure does to health, and what to do when it turns up unexpectedly.

Who is the Asbestos Awareness Course Suitable For?

Tradespeople and anyone who might come into contact with asbestos during their normal work – Category A training under the UKATA framework. It is awareness training only and does not permit delegates to work on asbestos; anyone who will knowingly disturb it needs the full-day non-licensed course, which runs at the same venue on the afternoon of each of these dates.

What's Included in the Asbestos Awareness Course?

A morning of tutor-led training with an end-of-course assessment and a UKATA or IATP certificate on success. The provider also delivers this course on-site at a client's premises or as a virtual classroom for teams who cannot travel.

Classroom, 08:30 to 11:00, at the training centre on Lymedale Business Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire – just off the A34 and close to junction 16 of the M6.

• Where asbestos is commonly found
• The health effects of asbestos exposure
• Legal duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
• What to do if asbestos is suspected or disturbed

Assessment / Examination

An end-of-course assessment covering the material taught during the session.

Certification

Successful delegates receive a UKATA or IATP Asbestos Awareness certificate. Refresher training is recommended every 12 months.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.
