Course Overview

UKATA Category A Asbestos Awareness training is for workers who could come across asbestos-containing materials in the course of their job, and for the people who supervise them. Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, employers must make sure anyone liable to disturb asbestos at work receives awareness training.

Who should attend?

Builders, maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers and other trades who may disturb the fabric of a building, plus supervisors and anyone wanting a basic understanding of asbestos before further training. No prerequisites.

Course Content

• Asbestos awareness: what it is, where it is found and the health risks
• Working with asbestos and what to do if you find it
• The duty to manage asbestos in buildings
• Asbestos in soils
• Asbestos and waste management

Course Duration

Half day (morning)

Assessment

A short written test at the end of the course.

Certification

UKATA Asbestos Awareness certificate for delegates who pass.

Validity of Award

Asbestos awareness training should be refreshed every year.

Delivery Method

Classroom-based and tutor-led at Leigh Court Business Centre, Pill Road, Abbots Leigh, Bristol, BS8 3RA, a short drive from Bristol city centre, Portishead and junction 19 of the M5. Safety Horizon (South West) is a UKATA approved training provider. Course materials, on-site car parking and refreshments are included (no lunch on half-day courses), and certificates are issued to delegates who complete the course successfully.

On successful completion, your certificate is issued by the awarding body. IOSH courses: Managing Safely, Managing Safely Refresher, Working Safely and Fire Safety Awareness lead to an IOSH certificate. IOSH certificates don't expire, but IOSH recommends Managing Safely holders refresh their knowledge every three years with the one-day refresher. UKATA Asbestos Awareness: leads to a UKATA certificate. Asbestos awareness training should be refreshed every year.
