What is the UKATA Non-Licensed Asbestos Removal Course?

A UKATA-certificated one-day course for people who will knowingly work on or disturb asbestos-containing materials. Where that work is not classified as licensable work under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, it is non-licensable asbestos work – and the Regulations require training before it is carried out. The course builds on awareness training with the practical detail of doing the job safely.

Who is the Non-Licensed Asbestos Removal Course Suitable For?

Maintenance operatives, strip-out crews, roofers, floor layers, electricians, plumbers and anyone else whose work involves removing or disturbing materials such as asbestos cement, floor tiles, textured coatings or gaskets. Delegates must have completed a half-day UKATA Asbestos Awareness course within the last six months – that course runs at this venue on the morning of each of these dates and can be booked alongside.

What's Included in the Non-Licensed Asbestos Removal Course?

Tutor-led training across four sections, an end-of-course assessment and a UKATA certificate on success.

Delivery Method

Classroom, 11:15 to 16:30, at the training centre on Lymedale Business Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire – just off the A34 and close to junction 16 of the M6.

Course Duration

1 day

Course Content

The course is broken into four sections:

  • Asbestos and your health – a refresher on the awareness material: the types of asbestos, the history of its use, why it is harmful, asbestos-related diseases and who is most at risk
  • Uses of asbestos – an extensive look at where and why each type was used, with examples, so delegates know what to look out for
  • Legislation and surveys – an overview of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, the types of asbestos survey and when each is used, and the difference between licensed, non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work
  • Preparation and removal – preparing the work area, control measures to limit fibre release, RPE and face fit testing, enclosures, decontamination and hazardous waste disposal

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course delegates should understand risk assessments and method statements, control limits, PPE and RPE, safe methods of working with non-licensed ACMs including HSG210 'Asbestos Essentials', decontamination processes, waste handling, emergency procedures and the role of licensed asbestos removal contractors.

Certification

Successful delegates receive a UKATA Non-Licensed Asbestos certificate, valid for one year, after which a refresher is required.
