What is a First Aid for Appointed Persons course?

This First Aid for Appointed Persons course is suitable when the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines indicate that a first aider is not necessary.

Day 1

The course content on day 1 includes:

• Welcome and introduction
• Dealing with an emergency
  Assessing a casualty, monitoring a casualty and where to get help.
• Unresponsive and breathing adult
• Unresponsive and not breathing adult
• Seizures
• Accident recording, reporting and COSHH
  Health and safety, first aid regulations, first aid kits, accident records, RIDDOR and COSHH.

Lower-hazard workplaces

This course is ideal for lower-hazard workplaces with less than 25 employees and have completed a risk assessment which indicates that a first aider is not required.

Higher-hazard workplaces

This course is ideal for higher-hazard workplaces such as construction or warehousing, with less than 5 employees and where a risk assessment indicates that a first aider is not necessary.

Delegates who successfully complete a British Red Cross First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work Requalification course are awarded a British Red Cross certificate, valid for three years. Certificates are issued by the British Red Cross after the course.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that workplace first aiders also complete a first aid skills update once a year to keep their skills fresh between requalifications.
