CPCS Plant, Streetworks, CITB and Utilities Training in Farnham, Surrey

CISTC is one of the broadest single-site centres on the site — thirty-nine courses across seven accreditation schemes from one location in Farnham. The range spans sixteen CPCS plant categories, the full CABWI streetworks set, CITB Site Safety Plus including temporary works, EUSR water and Smart Awards telecoms qualifications. For a contractor in Surrey, Hampshire or west London it covers plant, groundworks and site management without going anywhere else.

CPCS plant operator training — novice and experienced routes
CPCS categories covering A09 forward tipping dumper, A17C telescopic handler excluding slew, A31 ride-on roller, A40A slinger signaller all duties, A58 360 excavator below 10 tonnes and A59 above 10 tonnes — each available as a novice course or the shorter experienced route. There is also a combined A09 and A31 dumper and roller ticket, which is the efficient booking for a groundworker who runs both. Choosing novice when you already have hours on the machine costs days you did not need to spend.
Lifting operations — Appointed Person and crane
CPCS A61 Appointed Person and A62 Crane and Lifting Operations. The Appointed Person is the role LOLER and BS 7121 expect to plan lifts and take responsibility for the lifting plan — a genuinely senior competence, and one of the harder CPCS categories to find on an open schedule. Worth noting alongside the A40A slinger signaller course, since a compliant lift needs both roles filled.
CABWI streetworks — operatives, supervisors and reassessment
NRSWA for Operatives and for Supervisors, plus the reassessment route and a standalone Signing, Lighting and Guarding unit. Streetworks cards run for five years and the reassessment must be taken before expiry — miss it and the full course applies again. Signing, lighting and guarding is the unit most often needed on its own, since it governs how the works are made safe for the public.
CITB Site Safety Plus and temporary works
Utilities — EUSR water and Smart Awards telecoms
EUSR National Water Hygiene — the blue card required for work on drinking water assets — and EUSR Cat 1 and Cat 2 combined. Alongside them three Smart Awards telecoms units: SA001 overhead safety, SA002 underground safety and SA006 safe working in civils. IOSH Managing Safely for anyone supervising people or planning work, and IOSH Managing Sustainability — the environmental counterpart, and a rarity in this catalogue. First aid, mental health and practical short courses
Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work, the Mental Health First Aider course, Abrasive Wheels for cutting and grinding, and CAT and Genny training to HSG47. Striking a buried service is among the most expensive mistakes on a groundworks job, which is why the CAT and Genny course sits naturally beside the streetworks range here.
Novice or experienced — which CPCS route?
The experienced route is shorter and cheaper but assumes genuine time on the machine — it is a refresher and assessment rather than teaching. The novice route builds the skill from the start. Booking experienced without the hours behind you usually means failing the technical test and paying twice, so be honest about the operator's actual background rather than the one on the CV. Both routes lead to the same red trained operator card, which converts to blue competent operator on completion of the relevant NVQ.
