Course Overview

The Approved Code of Practice for the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (ACoP L143, second edition) states: “There is no legal requirement to repeat a formal refresher awareness training course every 12 months. However, some form of refresher awareness should be given, as necessary.”

Asbestos Awareness training is legally required for anyone who may be exposed to asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) during their work and for those who supervise them. Employees who completed their initial awareness training within the previous 12 to 18 months, and who meet the requirements of a training needs analysis (TNA), do not need to repeat the full course, but some form of refresher training is advised. This short refresher meets that need.

Who needs the Asbestos Awareness Refresher (CAT A) qualification?

This refresher is designed for employees whose work could expose them to asbestos and who hold a valid Asbestos Awareness certificate that they need to refresh. Occupations that may require asbestos awareness training include (but are not limited to):

• Carpenters
• Plumbers
• Painters and decorators

• Module 3: Avoiding the risk of exposure

Can I take the refresher without a previous certificate?
No. You need a valid Asbestos Awareness certificate to attend. If yours has lapsed or you have never trained, book the full Asbestos Awareness (CAT A) course instead.
