Training for the Temporary Works Supervisor Role

The CITB Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course (TWSTC) is a one-day course for people with experience of being responsible for temporary works who are taking on the Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) role defined in BS 5975-1:2024. It sits alongside the Temporary Works Co-ordinator course and focuses on supervising temporary works safely on site.

Course Objectives

• Understand the duties of a TWS and the roles of others
• Gain a detailed knowledge of BS 5975-1:2024
• Communicate effectively in the workplace

Course Content

• Risk management of temporary works, covering both safety and business aspects
• The four Cs: communication, co-operation, co-ordination and competence
• Legal duties
• The roles and responsibilities of the TWS
• How the TWS fits with the wider temporary works process
• The relevant parts of BS 5975-1:2024

Assessment

A 45-minute open-book exam selected by CITB, made up of multiple-choice and free-text questions, with a pass mark of 76%. You can use your course workbook, including your own notes. The full 7.5 hours must be attended for the Site Safety Plus certificate.

Certification

• CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for 5 years
• Refresh before it expires, otherwise the full course must be retaken
• CITB can take up to 8 weeks to issue certificates
