The three-day First Aid at Work (FAW) course qualifies delegates to act as a designated first aider in the workplace. It is the appropriate level of training where a workplace first aid needs assessment identifies higher-risk activities or a larger workforce.

Course Content
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident and managing an unresponsive casualty
- CPR and safe use of an AED
- Choking, shock, bleeding and burns
- Fractures, spinal injuries and head injuries
- Medical conditions including asthma, diabetes, seizures and anaphylaxis
- Recording and reporting
Assessment and Certification
Assessment is continuous throughout the course, with practical demonstrations and written questions. Successful delegates receive a First Aid at Work certificate valid for three years. HSE recommends annual refresher training during that period.
