The Highfield Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a one-day qualification for nominated workplace first aiders. This course runs in the classroom at the training centre in Ossett, West Yorkshire, within easy reach of Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford.

Who attends?

The course suits employees who have been nominated to act as a workplace first aider, as well as individuals who want practical first aid knowledge and confidence. It is aimed at lower-risk workplaces, or organisations where a one-day first aid qualification is appropriate following a first aid needs assessment.

Pre-requisites

No previous first aid experience is required. Delegates should understand spoken and written English well enough to follow the course content, take part in practical activities and complete the assessment.

The aim of the course

The course gives delegates the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond to common workplace emergencies until further medical assistance arrives. It helps delegates:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a workplace first aider
  • Assess an emergency situation safely
  • Provide appropriate first aid to an unconscious casualty
  • Perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Respond effectively to choking
  • Deal with bleeding, shock and minor injuries
  • Know when and how to contact the emergency services

  • The role and responsibilities of the first aider
  • Assessing the scene and managing an emergency
  • Primary surveys and casualty assessment
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • The recovery position
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking
  • External bleeding
  • Shock
  • Minor injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Seizures
  • Recording and reporting first aid incidents
  • Preventing cross-infection during first aid treatment

E-learning is flexible, efficient, and cost-effective, meaning you can progress through the modules at your own pace, at your own time to fit the training in around your work and personal life.

Short online courses also help employers to demonstrate that they have fulfilled their legal duties to ensure their personnel have been adequately trained.

Once the courses have been completed, a confirmation of results can be saved or printed as evidence. This can then be kept on record as evidence of suitable training.
