Paediatric First Aid in Exeter, Devon (Classroom)

Course Overview

This two-day course gives delegates the knowledge and practical skills they need to gain a Paediatric First Aid certificate. It suits anyone who looks after babies and young children, including nursery and pre-school staff, childminders, nannies, teaching assistants and parents.

Over the two days, learners work through the full range of paediatric first aid situations, from assessing an emergency and helping an unresponsive infant or child, to CPR, choking, meningitis, sepsis, anaphylaxis, asthma and head and spinal injuries.

Course Content

• The role of the paediatric first aider
• Assessing the incident scene and the casualty
• CPR and AED (defibrillator) use for infants and children
• Choking and the unresponsive infant or child
• Anaphylaxis, asthma, meningitis, seizures and febrile convulsions, and diabetic emergencies
• Sepsis
• Head, neck and back injuries, and injuries to the eyes, ears and nose
• Severe bleeding, burns, scalds and shock
• Poisoning, electric shock and the effects of extreme heat and cold

Assessment

Practical and theory assessments.

Certification

Successful learners receive the Paediatric First Aid qualification.
