The SIA Close Protection course is the qualification you need to apply for an SIA Close Protection Licence and work as a bodyguard or personal protection officer. It is the longest and most demanding of the SIA licence-linked courses, and it opens the highest-paid work in the private security sector.
Training covers threat and risk assessment, operational planning, surveillance awareness, route selection and reconnaissance, working as part of a protection team, conflict management and physical intervention, plus the law as it applies to close protection work. Delivery is classroom-based with practical assessment, across multiple UK centres.

Do I need an existing SIA licence?
No. Close Protection is a standalone qualification and you do not need a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence first, though many candidates come from that background.
How long is the course?

Is first aid included?
