SPA Core & Petrol Retail Passport Training in Bromsgrove
The SPA Core & Petrol Retail Passport is the recognised safety passport for contractors and employees working on petrol filling stations and fuel retail sites. Many operators require it before granting site access, as forecourts combine public access with flammable fuel storage and vehicle movements in a confined area.
The two-day course combines the SPA Core Day with the petrol retail sector day. It covers general workplace health and safety alongside the hazards specific to forecourts — fuel handling and spillage, vapour and ignition sources, tanker deliveries, working near live pumps, and managing risk while the public are present.

Course Programme
Day 1 — SPA Core Day
- Health and safety law and personal responsibilities
- Risk assessment and safe systems of work
- Manual handling, slips, trips and falls
- Personal protective equipment
- Fire, electricity and hazardous substances
- Accident reporting and emergency procedures
Day 2 — Petrol Retail Sector Day
- The forecourt environment and its specific hazards
- Fuel properties, vapour and ignition sources
- Safe working near tanks, pumps and delivery points
- Spillage response and environmental protection
- Working safely with the public present
- Permits, isolation and site rules
Key Learning Outcomes
- Understand the hazards particular to petrol retail sites
- Recognise how fuel vapour behaves and where ignition risk arises
- Work safely around tanks, pumps and tanker deliveries
- Respond correctly to a fuel spillage
- Understand permit and isolation procedures on a live forecourt
Certification
Delegates who successfully complete all assessment papers receive a Safety Passport valid for 3 years, which can be refreshed at any time during the 6 months before expiry. Passport fees are included in the course price.
