SPA/MPQC Quarry Passport Training in Southam
The SPA/MPQC Quarry Passport is the recognised safety passport for contractors and employees working on quarry, mineral extraction and mineral products sites. Many operators make it a condition of site access, and it demonstrates that a worker understands the hazards specific to a quarry environment before they set foot on site.
The two-day course combines the SPA Core Day with the MPQC sector day, covering general workplace safety alongside the particular risks of extraction sites — heavy plant and vehicle movements, working at height on plant, confined spaces, dust and noise, and the consequences of unsafe behaviour around large moving machinery.

Course Programme
Day 1 — SPA Core Day
- Health and safety law and personal responsibilities
- Risk assessment and safe systems of work
- Manual handling, slips, trips and falls
- Personal protective equipment
- Fire, electricity and hazardous substances
- Accident reporting and emergency procedures
Day 2 — MPQC Quarry Sector Day
- The quarry environment and its specific hazards
- Vehicle and mobile plant movements on site
- Working at height and around conveyors and plant
- Confined spaces and isolation procedures
- Dust, noise and vibration exposure
- Site rules, permits and safe access
Key Learning Outcomes
- Understand the hazards particular to quarry and mineral extraction sites
- Recognise the risks created by heavy plant and vehicle movements
- Apply safe working practices around conveyors, crushers and screening plant
- Understand isolation, permit and confined space procedures
- Take personal responsibility for safety on site
Certification
Delegates who successfully complete all assessment papers receive a Safety Passport valid for 3 years, which can be refreshed at any time during the 6 months before expiry. Passport fees are included in the course price.
