Course Overview
The CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is the two-day Site Safety Plus course for supervisors in building, construction and civil engineering. It explains the law and the practical controls that keep a site safe, and the supervisor's part in leading the workforce, checking work and dealing with hazards as they arise.
Who should attend?
Supervisors, forepersons, gangers and first-line managers who have, or are about to take on, supervisory responsibilities. Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level.
Course Content
- Module 1: Health and safety law, CDM Regulations 2015, safety management systems, risk assessments and method statements, statutory inspections, reporting accidents and ill health, leadership and worker engagement
- Module 2: Health and welfare, first aid and emergency procedures, hazardous substances, asbestos, dust and fumes, noise and vibration, manual handling
- Module 3: Site set-up and security, fire prevention and control, electricity, plant and work equipment, lifting operations
- Module 4: Work at height, excavations, underground and overhead services, confined spaces, temporary works
- Module 5: Environmental awareness, pollution, waste and nuisance

On completion, delegates will be able to:
- Supervise health and safety on site in line with current law and their role
- Explain their responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of the workers they supervise
- Show how a safe site supports efficiency and productivity

IOSH certificates don't expire, but IOSH recommends a refresher course every three years.
