Supervisor Safety Training for Construction Sites in North Hertfordshire

Course Overview

The CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is the two-day Site Safety Plus course for people who supervise construction work. It explains how health and safety law applies at supervisor level and gives practical tools for leading a team safely: assessing risk, briefing method statements, running inductions and toolbox talks, checking work as it happens and stepping in early when standards slip.

Who should attend?

Site supervisors and assistant supervisors, forepersons, team leaders and construction workers moving into a supervisory role. Employers who want to strengthen their supervisors' safety awareness will also find it a good fit. No previous qualifications are required.

Course Content

  • How health and safety law is structured and how it applies to supervisors
  • The supervisor's place in managing site safety
  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Monitoring site activities
  • Intervening promptly when unsafe practice is spotted
  • Welfare and environmental issues
  • Problems facing the construction industry

Yes. The minimum age is 16, and delegates under 18 need consent from a parent or guardian.

How do I keep my SSSTS valid?
Complete the 1-day SSSTS Refresher before the 5-year certificate expires. Once it has lapsed, the full 2-day course must be repeated.

Is SSSTS right for site managers?
SSSTS is designed for supervisors. Those responsible for running a whole site usually need the 5-day SMSTS.
