CPCS A61 Appointed Person in Sutton Coldfield

Envico lists this CPCS A61 Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) course at the Vesey House training centre in Sutton Coldfield, delivered by PGL Midlands. Envico has been arranging accredited health and safety training for UK employers since 2003 and is ISO 9001 registered.

Course Duration

Five days — four days of training followed by an assessment day.

Delivery Method

Classroom-based, blending theory with practical exercises and site-based scenarios at the Sutton Coldfield venue.

Entry Requirements

You must hold a current CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at Managers and Professionals level, passed within the last two years. You should also have a basic understanding of lifting activities; prior site experience or supervisory duties help considerably.

Who Should Attend

Anyone taking responsibility for lifting plans and crane operations — lifting supervisors stepping up, site managers formalising existing expertise, and employers building a compliant lifting team across construction, civil engineering and manufacturing.

What You'll Learn

How to plan, manage and oversee lifting operations in compliance with LOLER 1998 and BS 7121, and how to fulfil the Appointed Person's responsibilities in practice. Lifting operations are among the most hazardous activities on a construction site, and poor planning is what turns them into incidents.

Certification

On completing the course and passing the CPCS technical tests you receive the Red CPCS Appointed Person card.

Good to Know

If you already hold the CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller qualification, successful completion of A61 also awards the CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor qualification — two cards from one course. An Appointed Person is not a statutory requirement in itself, but employers must ensure competence under LOLER, and most principal contractors require a certified Appointed Person on projects involving crane work.
